How to Test SMS in Gail
Once your assistant is configured for SMS, you can test both Inbound SMS (messages sent to your Gail number) and Outbound SMS (messages sent by Gail to contacts).
1. Testing Inbound SMS
-
Navigate to the Calls tab from the left-hand menu.
-
At the top of the page, locate your Gail phone number.
-
From your personal phone, send a test text message to that number.
-
If you receive a response from Gail:
✅ Your inbound SMS is successfully connected.
-
Continue texting in that same conversation to test:
- Your assistant’s prompt behavior.
- Different use cases and responses.
2. Testing Outbound SMS
- Navigate to the Contacts tab from the left-hand menu.
- Create a new contact for yourself:
- Enter your name.
- Enter your phone number.
- Add your new contact to a test list.
- The list can include only you, or others you want to test with.
- Navigate to the Campaigns tab.
- Follow the [Creating an SMS Campaign Guide] to set up a new test campaign.
- Once created, click Start to launch the campaign.
- A message should arrive within 5 minutes.
✅ Once you receive the text, outbound SMS is working.
- You can reply directly to that conversation to continue testing responses and functionality.
Conclusion
By testing both inbound and outbound SMS, you ensure your assistant is fully connected and functioning correctly. This allows you to validate messaging flows, prompts, and customer use cases before running live campaigns.
